Historical sources attribute the following sermon to Abu Talib (AS) during the marriage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to Lady Khadijah (SA):
All praise is due to Allah, who made us from the descendants of Ibrahim (AS), the progeny of Ismail (AS), and the lineage of Ma’ad and Mudar. And He made us the custodians of His House, and granted us leadership over the people.
Indeed, my nephew Muhammad (PBUH) is superior to any man in his lineage, his character, and his intellect. If wealth is the measure of worth, then wealth is fleeting, but true worth is in virtue and piety. Muhammad (PBUH), though possessing little wealth, is a man of great character and integrity.
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (SA) has expressed her desire to join with Muhammad (PBUH) in marriage. By Allah, he will be the best husband, and she will be the best wife. And the dowry, which she has set from her wealth, is accepted.
I bear witness that Muhammad (PBUH) is the most deserving of Khadijah (SA), and may Allah bring them blessings and harmony.”
