Hey folks. Tomorrow will be a busy day so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Yule. I hope your day is filled with love and laughter and many happy memories are created.
As I plan to spend Christmas with my husband and my children, I’m ever so conscious of the fact that many families are still being kept apart by the British state. Men and woman in prison for social media posts, throwing a traffic cone, shouting at a protest, sharing books, possessing unread documents, or even defending themselves against a police dog; mothers (and fathers) on the outside trying their best to hold everything together, and children being kept apart from their daddies and mummies.
I don’t agree with every action that each person took, but there is no doubt that these people are political prisoners and they shouldn’t be in prison. There is also no doubt that had these people been given an outlet instead of being censored and demonised at every opportunity, then things may have ended up differently.
Even though the hardest part of mine and Sam’s ordeal has come to an end, for many other families, they are only part way through multiple year sentences. So I would like to raise an online toast to Britain’s political prisoners and their families. Know that I, that we, stand with you, today, at Christmas, and into the future. And know that we will do our best to help you and fix what has become of this awful, oppressive country.
Merry Christmas to you all 🥂
