🇦🇹 Fully Funded PhD Opportunity in Neurogenetics & Aggression Research
📍 Location: Medizinische Universität Graz, Austria
🔬 Funding: Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
🧠 Project Title: Identification and Characterization of Novel Gene Candidates Regulating Aggression
💡 Why This Matters:
Aggression is an innate behavior across the animal kingdom, but excessive aggression in humans is linked to neuropsychiatric disorders such as ADHD, schizophrenia, and dementia. This research aims to uncover the genetic basis of aggression using zebrafish as a model organism.
🛠 Project Methodology:
✅ Zebrafish aggression assays & RNA sequencing (RNAseq) of brain tissues
✅ CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to manipulate target genes
✅ Behavioral and neurobiological analysis of novel transgenic zebrafish lines
✅ Neurotransmitter system analysis (qPCR, ELISA, HPLC)
✅ Collaborations with University of Exeter & Joanneum Research for neural activity & metabolomics studies
🎯 Who Should Apply?
✔ Background in genetics, neuroscience, biology, or related fields
✔ Experience with molecular biology, behavioral assays, or bioinformatics is a plus
✔ Passion for neurogenetics & behavioral research
